Justin Trudeau must do more to win over male voters, including pressing the 'cringe-inducing authoritarian button' less often

If legacy Canadian media wishes to continue to treat female voters as some "monolithic bloc," the least that independent outlets can do is highlight the absurdity of such an approach.

With apologies to Erin O’Toole.

In accordance with a newspaper outfit that chooses to spend actual hard-earned subscriber dollars on Gary Mason’s salary, Pierre Poilievre has a problem with the ladies.

A problem of polling numbers, to be exact.

We don’t get there until paragraph two, of course, and we are introduced to said problem by Nik Nanos, Liberal pollster extraordinaire, who, while more reliable than certain vermouth-soaked colleagues, gives away the partisan silliness of the whole tired exercise.

The Globe piece in question, which is still making the rounds amongst consultants and politico types, has been rightly scoffed at for fitting neatly into that tried, tested, and true ‘liberal media’ framing device.

As David Tarrant, former comms strategist for Prime Minister Stephen Harper correctly points out, if women are to continue to be treated as some “monolithic bloc” to be wedged and manipulated by PMO back-channels, why can the same not be said for the male voting bloc?

Now please write an article about what ⁦@JustinTrudeau⁩ must do to ‘win over’ men, a demographic with whom poll after poll shows him to be toxically unpopular Or does the ⁦@globeandmail⁩ believe it ridiculous to treat men as a monolithic bloc as they do with women?

Trudeau has indeed shown himself to be “toxically unpopular” amongst male voters of all ages, and has even started to bleed support from young voters on levels heretofore unseen.

So, in keeping with the modus operandi of this whole Substack exercise, allow the author to present to you an alternate version of that Globe column.

Y’know, to balance the scales.

Justin Trudeau must do more to attract male voters to win back his majority in the next election, including hitting the ‘cringe-inducing authoritarian button’ less often, according to the experts the reporter picked to support a pre-existing narrative, and who were also the only ones to reply before the reporter’s deadline.

The Prime Minister is trailing Pierre Poilievre when it comes to support from men, with a recent Angus Reid poll showcasing that only 35% of men approve of the job that’s being done by a PM who supported the closing of their work, gyms, bars, steakhouses, didn’t allow for their uncle with a trucking company to cross the border without an over-procured product of increasingly questionable efficacy and safety, and who presently wishes to shake down their salt of the earth grandfather for his hunting rifle.

Political commentators say to win back his majority, Mr. Trudeau must gain back the backing of men, including “the near-seventy-percent of those who haven’t had a booster” and who failed to warm to last election’s Fuhrer rant.

The least-Liberal insider that this reporter could find, who worked with actual Liberals like Jean Chretien and Paul Martin, said Mr. Trudeau’s history of discrimination, his shameful publicity stunts on programs such as Canada’s Drag Race, and his past mistreatment of strong female colleagues and the sexual harassment of a British Columbia reporter risk further alienating a voter group that has heard the rumours about what really goes on at Harrington Lake, and frankly, feels slightly weirded out by them.
