True Blue or the Ontario part for me. God I hate Doug Ford, another useless "conservative" with DEI in this eyes and.... I'll stop before I go profane. But it's hard not to lose ones mind these days.
I watch Bannon and Bongino, and hope that the sheer gravity from killing the globalist left in the USA pulls Canadians into their senses.
I believe I voted New Blue in the last provincial, and for a candidate who looked like he slept in his car. Couldn't stand Del Duca and his even more dangerous and absurd Covid mandates, and I helped campaign to defeat him, but I couldn't stomach marking an X for the man who helped give me heart inflammation, and destroyed the lives, businesses, and fucked with the family units, so needlessly, of so many.
Excellent take on the incompetence of Ford and Eby and their dumb overreactions, to say nothing of the total failure of the Liberals. Election please! And kudos to Danielle Smith!
Thank you, Peter. I don't begrudge anyone their worries, but their performance bothers me, just as I find Trump's sovereignty digs to be obnoxious and unhelpful. 'Team Canada' didn't seem to have an issue with tariffs when they were affixing costs on inter-provincial trade, cancelling energy projects, and increasing carbon taxes by tens of percentage points per year. We have made life needlessly expensive and punitive for our people, now that someone else has taken a crack at that playbook these people have finally found their nationalistic backbone?
The only reason I will still vote ‘Conservative’ in the upcoming Ontario election is because the choice is terrible. I wish I was voting for a real Conservative.
Understandable, Janet. That cultivated apathy is the name of the game in a deeply uninteresting pseudo-sham of a bumped-up Ontario E-day, that has more to do with getting out ahead of the federal election before polling numbers start to slip. I was just saying the same to a reporter who was putting a piece together on this very topic.
So much for the "New Year" being a dull affair Alex. Plenty of grist for your marvelous mill.
I've appreciated the CPC's sensible messaging throughout this maelstrom. Common sense thinking, as befits a team of seasoned adults.
The Ontario Premier's reactionary behaviour looks almost Trudeauesque. As childish and unbecoming as it has looked (and sounded), his strategy appears to be working. His standing has improved in the most recent polls. He appears to be beating the Libs and Dippers by using their well honed whiny tactics. If that's what it takes to save Ontario from younger versions of Wynne and Rea, so be it.
Self-righteous Canadians need to know that DJT was elected by a majority of Americans to save the country from the dystopian future that was just over the horizon. The return of a fair and balanced legal system, an equitable society based on merit over race, an improved standard of living, the end to the soul crushing drug epidemic and the rebuilding of a capable and feared military are just a few of the goals of his administration. The understandable horror of massive tariffs has resulted in both Canada and Mexico finally taking border-related issues seriously. Hopefully, tangible evidence of progress on that front will be available within this month. In the meantime, I might pick up a case or two of my favourite Californian Chardonnay.
I was on a call yesterday with some strategists and the CPC are doing their best to account for this curve ball. They can't lose a flag match, or they lose the election, but they also know they don't want to turn up the temperature when Ford, Liberal caucus, and Eby are all but throwing Molotov cocktails (made in Canada, of course!).
The Ford government's strategy to get out ahead, amass a ton of resources, and then just become the Ontario Liberal Party has been ingenious. I get it. It works. I think we all understand the thought process. But that really does make him a Liberal -- at least publicly -- and that remains deeply unfortunate when you see how little that's been made to mean, and how unhelpful that is for the average person just trying to get by.
The Trump mandate has clearly smacked Canada out of a kind of apathy that can only come from taking leave of your senses for ten years, indulging in a whole lot of trivial nonsense, and then realizing "Oh crap, how am I going to pay the bills?"
We were turned into the art school grad who failed to launch and loafed around the house. And now the free-ride and indulgences are over.
We were lead by a drama teacher who failed to appreciate the discipline and sacrifices that have to be made to keep the house intact. His free-ride and indulgences will likely continue, hopefully at the expense of non-Canadians.
I live in AB and I wrote our premier Danielle Smith that with all of the negative comments she was receiving for going down there to try to meet up with Trump and make a case for our oil plus show what changes she and her government have made to improve our border security that I 100% supported her!
Ford and Eby who are supposed to be grown up adult men in comparison look like children having a hissy fit, how utterly embarrassing for us all.
Completely understandable, Sonya, and those letters can go a long way. They do get read, and given the amount of negative feedback even the good politicians receive, the positive moments really stick out.
What bothers me about the "hissy fits," as it did during Covid, is that they aren't authentic. Yes, people are concerned, but there is a whole lot of managing the emotions of specific groups of supporters (mainly, Ford's new supporters in handout-addicted unions and logistics) who now need to be all but bribed to stay in business in Ontario. The whole economic model is bunk, and built on shoddy foundations.
It only takes one person to say a little something thoughtful and positive that gives another a little sense of optimism so they can continue to carry on as the British say.
It’s really important to so many of us to hear something a little positive from time to time amidst all of the negativity, from others who are more in the know about such things than ourselves. Never under estimate how powerful just a few little words that offer up a little bit of hopefulness or positivity can bring to another person… I was seriously in need and tbh what Terry Glavin said scared me.
Just heard Terry Glavin on a 5 minute guest appearance on 770 am chorus radio network on Sarah’s 4 hour show called Connect running Mon-Fri.
He spoke very grimly and gravely about the mess Canada is in with the world changing so fast and the US wanting to withdraw from everything and go it alone so to speak. He said politicos bureaucrats msm all say oh ok it will be ok if US doesn’t want our stuff there’s always China which he sees as jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
He speaks very gravely about our future because we are utterly UNPREPARED in all aspects that matter to maintain our sovereignty with 25% tariffs, bye bye auto sector in Ontario, country will crumble will be like war Great Depression times and no politicians being honest with us how bad it is going to be…
Thank you for this note Sonya. Missed that appearance but I've been keeping up with Terry's writing as a fan and subscriber.
I think it's no coincidence that Beijing influence networks have already fired up to interfere against Freeland. China stands ready, willing, and able to benefit from the PMO's hand-picked successor in being a compromised doormat: https://www.thebureau.news/p/breaking-canada-election-monitor
We're indeed in for a challenging year ahead, but the situation is fluid, and we may yet surprise ourselves. There are some good people with prudent ideas and no interest in continuing the calamities and vulnerability of this present moment who are working very hard behind the scenes right now.

There is hope.

Spot on Janet!
I'm of like mind Janet. I wish there were a real Conservative party in Ontario that has a chance of forming a government.
I've said before... Ford is the best of a very bad lot.
Not how I'd want to run my party, but hey, I'm the middle-class guy juggling a few jobs and having to red-line the engine for a reason lol.
The McGuinty Model works, if you can live with yourself.
Yuck.

Terrific as always, Ted!

Right, wrong, or otherwise, we needed that.

The toddleresque tantrums have been something to behold. I could not be more embarrassed for Canada.
Excellent! A job well done Alex!
I try! Appreciate that, Mitch.

My pleasure. Kind of you to say.

Everything here. Perfection.
Very kind! Thanks.
