Like a prime minister fleeing for the misty shores of Tofino, the newsletter is taking off for Christmas, which means it’s time for some obligatory “thank yous,” and the annual video message from yours truly. (Although, you may hear from me yet if an Op-ed that’s pinging around the papers actually gets picked up.)
But first, here’s the funny thing about Lost Liberal Decades: ultimately, they end. On what feels like our third Friday since Monday, that news continues to evolve by the hour.
The latest? The NDP have announced they’ll have their cake and eat it too: they’ll call for a vote of No-Confidence in January when the House resumes, and Jagmeet will get to his pension deadline in February.
That is all but the final blow to a PM likely destined to Friday news dump his resignation after a melancholic walk in the woods over the holidays. It’s that or prorogation; either way, his path to anywhere beyond January 31st is shakier than Chrystia Freeland driving down a pot-holed road while answering questions about her grandfather’s employment during WWII.
You, of course, deserve an election, not just a resignation. That’s still possible in shorter order than 10 months, but with the dumpster fire evolving by the hour, there’s little point in prognostication at present. As I mentioned a lifetime ago, or earlier this week: most importantly, Canadians are getting their country back.
There’ll be time to haggle over the details in the weeks to come. But If I hear anything beforehand, you’ll be the first to know.
On the giving thanks for the holidays side, I wish to express my immense gratitude for the thousands of subscribers, and the 150,000 readers who visited this Substack in 2024. Acceptable Views is now firmly a best-seller, and has allowed this writer to split his time between comms, campaigns, columns, and a few new projects I’m looking forward to debuting in 2025. I couldn’t have done it without the support of our hundreds of paid subscribers, for whom I have recorded a video message for below.
