On the day after the year after, what can any common-sense-minded Westerner say but, “Oh for the love of…”
In my unprofessional capacity, I can attempt to crack wise, I can ‘shit-post,’ as folks my age in the Online Not-Left are known to do, I can write another column here that perhaps borrows from recent terrific work in the Post, which includes my favourite column of 2024, from writerly pal and fellow “Greater Vancouver, for now,” resident Geoff Russ.
Or, in my (somewhat) professional capacity, I can attempt to port over some of those ‘unacceptable views,’ render myself forever incapable of running for office, and burn a few bridges professionally and personally.
Given the abandonment of so many vital Canadian communities over the past year and one day, and even over the last nine years of a lost Liberal decade, I choose the latter.
As some of you may know, in my non-Substack hours I presently serve as the Director of the National Citizens Coalition, and chip in on political campaigns in a volunteer capacity (such as Anthony Furey’s 2023 mayoral byelection run).
‘The Coalition,’ which was founded by my grandfather, a man I never had the pleasure of meeting, but who I look up to as if I had, continues to serve a role in the third-party political ecosphere to this day, as the rise of far-left special interests — and now, often government-funded astroturf groups — deserve a capable counter-signal, and campaigns that go direct to market, and directly to Canadian voters.
Of late, some of the ads have been excellent. In truth, I often find myself pulled between multiple projects and could use an extra pair of hands. The non-profit space can be a daily exercise in humility. But the raison d’etre remains the same, and the reach (often in the millions), only continues to grow during campaign periods, and boy, are we in an important one.
An added benefit of groups like the NCC (no, I don’t mean the National Capital Commission, Ottawans), is the ability to speak plainly where, say, a big-C conservative party can’t, and messaging doesn’t have to be belt-sanded down by our Great Wall of Consultocracy.
In that vein, and in taking advantage of that spirit, I dropped a press release this morning that will be ignored by all the usual suspects, but that reached 50,000 emails all the same, and for that I’m grateful for their support, as I am for yours.
No matter one’s stance on geopolitical conflicts, Current Things, and the often Neo-Liberal, Neo-Conservative whims of the flags in Twitter bio crowd, we can all agree that what we’re seeing at street level is a problem — and a big one at that.
We speak plainly about that, here and now, or we lose even more of ourselves. And frankly, there’s not much of our dominion left to squander.
I remain hopeful for your future, but we have to fight for it, every damned day — and today feels like a particularly important one.
My press release, for whatever it’s worth, is below.
(Read here or there.)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
It's the morning of October 8th, the day after the first anniversary of the deplorable Hamas terror attacks against Israeli citizens, and the Canada we wake up in today is not the one that belonged to our greatest generations, our builders, our unwavering patriots.
Over the past few days, scores of hateful protests have swept the nation, continuing a trend of the targeting of Jewish neighbourhoods, the desecration of our national symbols, and the threatening of our very values, freedoms, and way of life.
And yesterday was the worst day of them all.
If you've missed the grisly scenes online, which are largely being IGNORED by subsidized Liberal media, there were multiple flag burnings, legitimate threats and incitement to hatred and violence, extensive property damage, and the police and security services did nothing.
The Trudeau government has said -- and done -- nothing.
In fact, counter-protesters were BLOCKED by police and protective services across the country, allowing these hate-fests to go unchallenged.
Regardless of one's specific stance on global conflict, it has been undeniable from the beginning that the Canadian Left has lost its mind. They'll take a turn on the fainting couch over "honk, honk," and overwhelmingly peaceful, law-abiding trucker protests, but "DEATH TO CANADA!" doesn't register, because we're all "settler colonialists" who must be punished for our identities, for loving our country, and for taking care of our communities.
It's not just the abandonment of peaceful, prosperous, charitable Jewish Canadians that should have every Canadian on full alert this morning, it's the utter abandonment of CANADA over nine years of Justin Trudeau.
When he promised he wanted Canada to be the world's "first post-national state," apparently, that's the one promise he's kept.
Since then we have imported terror, terrorists, and every Third World diasporic grievance imaginable; some of the world's very worst -- seemingly on purpose.
Literal terror-backing groups like Samidoun are allowed to set up shop in Vancouver. Gangland Khalistani violence is allowed to threaten communities in Brampton, Surrey, and Calgary. We have attempted terrorists entering from Pakistan, to claim fake asylum here, so they can go murder Jews in New York. 'We' have been compromised. 'We' have been corrupted. 'We' have become a liability to our friends and allies.
'We' are run by cowards, traitors, and thieves.
And every day, thousands more enter on limited to non-existent background checks. Many are military-aged males with zero prospects, zero skills, and zero shared values.
Enough is enough. Yesterday was a disgrace. This past year, and the nine before it, have been a disgrace.
Trudeau's post-national, pro-terror, pro-crime reign must end.
More importantly, thank you for being here. Thank you for loving your country. Thank you for not giving up on her, even when your government gives up on you.
We'll continue to right the wrong. We'll Fire Trudeau, together.
Sincerely,
Alexander Brown
Thank you Alex! That's it that's all.
'My money is where my mouth is' as the saying goes.
Keep up the good fight.
Cheers. 🫡
Your grandfather would be proud Alex. Thank you.
