I thought there was some hope for this country until last spring’s election. The gullibility level of this country’s older generations, the selfishness of older generations to maintain “their” status quo was really quite astounding. The only light I see is with younger generations as I don’t believe that we of the older generations will lift a finger. Very good column Alex!

Glenn thank you for the comment. It's indeed disheartening, and it often feels like a tale of two countries. There are many out there and behind the scenes working to try and better bridge that gap. I hope the effort helps!

An excellent, albeit depressing, read Alex.

The "hippy" era of the late-60s and 70s produced loud anti-establishment youth who were fascinated with and tempted by socialism. Many of those individuals are now in the the fourth quarter of their lives, yet they still yearn for what they deem to be an idyllic society. That includes getting free stuff from their governments. Unfortunately, free stuff dries up when governments' pockets are empty. The proposed federal budget is frightening, as it displays the current crew's inability to take fiscal governance seriously. Unlike in Canada, that crisis has been recognized south of the border and its federal leadership is taking decisive and unpopular actions in order to cure the disease. During the financial crash of 2008, those who had the most were hit the hardest. "Boomers" who experienced massive reductions in their net worth during that period should be wary of lazy, undisciplined, WEF-worshipping leaders who believe that a budget will balance itself.

I wish it could have been more lively, Ted! I remain firmly of the belief I want to be proven wrong by the 'new' powers that be. Please, make my work feel redundant. Threaten us with a good time! The promise of utopia is certainly proving to be a predictable disaster. I hope we're capable of clawing back some key percentage points with those who are capable of learning from their mistakes...

A timely article Alex. George Jetson would get the 'jet packs' reference. 😂

I, too, find myself metaphorically banging my head against the brick wall of some of my peers who's first-class language tone tends to be in the 'pee-pee' descriptive class of name calling.

I try to be civil but, OMG, they are insufferable at times.

"ALL FOR ONE! ME-MYSELF AND I" all the rest be damned!

Or the more delicate... "He speaks to me!" with out actually listen to what 'He' says.

I'm glad all of this, for me, is on social media where I've been sorely tempted, at times, to use the block feature. But, I keep pounding way with my posts hoping they might at least read what I'm posting than dismissing it outright.

Keep chipping away Alex, my generation, and especially my professional peers, are a stubborn lot.

Cheers.

Thank you, Peter! It's a challenge out there. I don't begrudge anyone who uses the mute or block feature prodigiously. If I didn't have to interface with the news and opinion as much as I did, I'd probably prefer the solitude of the mountains with no internet connection right about now... but alas, we keep chipping away!

“…where that misbegotten and sudden shift from the old sacrificing for the young, to the young continuously having to sacrifice for the old” - im sick of these pathetic “oldies”….i loathe this shift. I brought my kids into this world. I am responsible to make sacrifices for their future NOT the other way around.

Truly the worst of the Covid holdovers. The moment schools and playgrounds closed to ... protect grandma (?) we were in big trouble.
