Special edition: 'Beware of Liberal gifts in 2024'
Acceptable Views returns for the New Year with some exciting news -- and a story.
Happy New Year, constant reader.
I hope that these past few weeks have been able to offer you a welcome reprieve from so much of what ails us.
In a post-viral brain fog, during that already murky and mysterious period between Christmas and New Year’s, where the days bleed into one another, or form some kind of “flat circle,” to borrow from esteemed philosopher Rustin Cohle, I found myself wondering about how to best kickoff all matters of writing in 2024, knowing that it’s finally all downhill to the 2025 election.
So I scribbled a little something down, that explained a little bit more about who I am and what I do. But by the time I finished, I realized I wasn’t writing about myself at all.
I was writing about my grandfather: a great man, whom I never had the pleasure of meeting (and, if I’m being honest, would have likely helped shape my life in far more productive and prosperous ways).
When Colin M. Brown first introduced himself to the Canadian political scene with the formation of the National Citizens Coalition, an organization where I presently wear a few hats (amongst various other side hustles and volunteer roles), it came in the form of a series of newspaper ads, letting his fellow Canadians know they weren’t alone in sensing that something was amiss.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, I’ve realized on a few occasions that that’s what I do for a living as well, so as a little tribute to the man, and the impact his (prescient) early warnings had on the future of the Canadian political scene, I decided to flip the story off to the newspaper of my childhood, the Toronto Sun, where my grandfather once placed his work, and shared a special relationship with the great Peter Worthington.
To my surprise, Editor-in-Chief Adrienne Batra said yes.
And now, yours truly is presently in a major Canadian newspaper for the first time, leading the opinion section. (Print version can be found in the Saturday Sun, on page 4.)
So, if you have the time today or this weekend, give ‘Beware of Liberal Gifts in 2024’ a read, and do consider an E-subscription to the Sun, which is offering competitive prices to those found here.
Thank you to Adrienne.
Thank you to you, constant reader.
And thank you to my grandfather. I’m proud to help tell his story.

Hi Alex, I went to journalism school with Colin Brown Jr., who I have to assume is either your father or uncle. It so happens that I have a renewal letter from the National Citizens Coalition sitting on my desk, and I was wondering, do I continue to support the organization or not? My first thought: "They have been going all these years, and what we got to show for it?"
I agree that the most important job is to defeat Trudeau and his insane program to wreck Canadian society and the economy of this formerly great country. My husband I do what we can to support all manner of democracy and health freedom organizations plus quite a few of the Substackers like yourself who are fighting to oppose the insane censorship, the drive to collectivism and the utter incompetence of public health and government in this country. So tell me: how is it that we can't break through and get Canadians to see how destructive the Trudeau Liberals really are? How is it that only 20-30 percent of Canadians actually value freedom? How do we turn this around?
Congratulations Alex on your additional responsibilities. You have joined a tremendous team that brings common sense to political analysis these days.
BTW, I was blessed to know your amazing Grandfather Brown. CMB was a wonderful human being. He provided wise counsel, publicly and privately, to many fortunate folks.
